Muslim Girl Problem #15

DSCN3671

I want to get a French manicure.

To this day, I’ve never gotten my nails done. Nope, not even for my wedding.

In Islam, we must perform ablution, or wudhu, before praying salaat or the Qur’an. That said, though wearing nail polish is not haram in itself – it is simply not permitted because water does not permeate through nail polish to our nails and thus our wudhu is not complete.

So many women do opt to get their nails done during their time of the month, but then again, do we a) want to spend $25+ on getting our nails done for about a week and b) want to announce to all our Muslim sisters (and brothers, and dad … eep) that we’re on our periods? Not usually.

However, recently I heard that there is a brand of “breathable” nail polishes that “allows oxygen and moisture to penetrate to the nail.” Again, there needs to be more studies done on this to see if it sufficient for wudhu but all I have to say (and I can honestly speak for many of my fellow hijabi homegirls) is that it’s about time that someone came out with this idea!

I’m not sure on the Islamic technicalities of it, but I’m still pretty impressed.  Don’t take this post to be some sort of fatwa and order the nail polish by the crates! I’m not a scholar, and I am on the fence about this nail polish … I might try it out, but I want to hear more reviews and opinions on it!

Kudos Inglot!

Readers:  would you try this nail polish? Let me know in the comments section!

Okay, that’s my girly post of the month ><

PEACE
